DELTA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- An estimated two-year long road project is under way east of Delta.
Crews started working on North Road between 2600 Road and Burritt earlier this week.
You can expect closures between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM Monday through Friday.
The goal is to completely realign the road and cut out some of the switchbacks in that area.
"It will speed up the traffic by quite a bit, because there's curves there that you can barely negotiate at 15 miles an hour, so its designed for 35 miles an hour, the new design. And sight distance will be improved for safety," said District 2 Road Foreman, Dan Sickles.
More than 200-thousand cubic yards of material have to be moved, and that's why the project is expected to take two years.
