CDOT preps for busy holiday travel

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- CDOT is reminding drivers that there will be more traffic than usual on the roads as we approach MLK weekend.

Officials say they are also expecting snow in parts of Colorado this weekend, which may make roads even more congested.

Numbers for travel around this time last year show that nearly 200,000 people traveled through the Eisenhower/Johnson Memorial tunnels.

CDOT is encouraging people to check roads and delays before heading out the door.

“Be mindful that for a lot of folks on the roads, they’re not from Colorado or they may not have traveled along I-70 or other mountain roads that much, and so make sure you're keeping in mind that if you have a lot of experience out there on the roads, a lot of other folks may not,” says Colorado Department of Transportation Region 3, Elise Thatcher.

If you are traveling to places like Steamboat Resort and Loveland Ski Area this holiday season, CDOT is offering a bus service that will take you to those locations.
