GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)-- The first "Heat is On" DUI enforcement period of the year starting Friday night.
This is the first of 16 "Heat is On" campaigns throughout the year. For the Martin Luther King holiday weekend, Colorado State Patrol will have more officers out on the roads to crack down on impaired drivers. Last year during this time, officers arrested 612 drivers under the influence.
"You know, if you are going to be out celebrating the holidays make sure you have a designated driver," said Trooper Joshua Zortman, Colorado State Patrol.
Colorado State Patrol wants to remind drivers that only one or two drinks could cause some people to exceed the state's DUI blood-alcohol levels.
