GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- More affordable housing is on the way for seniors in the Grand Valley.
The Highlands, an affordable housing complex for seniors in our area is expanding into its second phase.
The first part of the project on Bookcliff Avenue opened late last year with 64 units.
Today, a 'golden shovels' celebration was held to kick off the second phase. With the event, partners were invited to leave their mark in freshly poured concrete.
“When you can pay rent that's affordable you don't have to make tradeoffs like, should I buy food or by my medications, so it's going to make their lives a lot easier,” said Jody Kole, CEO Grand Junction Housing Authority.
Phase two is set to be complete in the spring of 2019.
