After icy, fatal crash authorities warn drivers to be careful

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- After a fatal car crash Sunday night on slick roads, police want people to take extra precautions.

They said as the temperatures drop and the snow melts, ice on the roads can become dangerous—even deadly. They have some basic tips for drivers, like making sure your tire tread is good and to drive slow.

They recommend leaving double the amount of space for stops and between cars, and they strongly urge to not get on the roads if you don't need to.

"Whatever errand you have to do, save it, just stay indoors if you can when road conditions are dangerous for our safety and the safety of others,” said Heidi Davidson, with the Grand Junction Police Department.

It is illegal to have any snow on top of your car that can fall off and distract another driver.
