Dancing for Latimer House

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A fundraiser for Latimer House that happened on Saturday isn't something you see every day.

It’s World Belly Dancing Day, and local dancers were all over town today for a good cause.

The Grand Junction Shimmy Mob danced at locations on North Avenue, Main Street and Patterson. All to raise funds and awareness for women's shelters like Latimer House. Las Marias on Main Street was one spot they showed off their choreography.

"We've got a whole bunch of belly dancers and they're doing this all over the world. This is not just a Grand Junction function, this is a worldwide event," said Jan Stanko, Shimmy Mob Team Leader.

The local shimmy mob has been doing this for almost ten years, and say the pervasiveness of domestic violence on the Western Slope means Latimer House needs all the help they can get.
