GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A Mesa County Sheriff's deputy who shot at a suspect has been cleared of any wrongdoing.
The deputy was responding to a suspicious incident call near 29 Road and the I-70 overpass in November of last year.
The driver of the car, Rocky Cannett, tried to run down the deputy who then fired his weapon at the vehicle. It then fled the scene. No one was hurt. Cannett was arrested and charged with attempted first-degree assault on a peace officer, vehicular eluding and tampering with physical evidence.
Cannett has since been sent to prison for charges in this incident and other unrelated cases. The District Attorney's office and Critical Incident Response Team investigated and found no wrongdoing on the part of the deputy.
