GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- First graders at Fruitvale Elementary School were surprised Thursday with free bikes.
Each of the 70 first graders was given a bike and helmet thanks to the 'Treads and Trail’ program.
The goal is to get kids active and outside and the Can'd Aid Foundation says a bike is one of the best ways to do just that.
“I've definitely seen some tears and some screaming. Kids just lose their mind. They say this is the best day ever. They can't believe it. They get so emotional. And that's the thing where it's really hitting home and it means a lot to them that they are getting something they otherwise might not be able to have," said Sarah Leavitt, Can’d Aid Foundation.
The group has donated bikes all over the nation, but has given away more than 1,000 in Colorado alone.
