GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO News)-- Monday was the first day 2019 election ballots were processed.
Right here in Mesa County the elections office has received more than 7,400 ballots. They say this is a pretty average number for a first day. Processing will continue all the way up until November 5th.
"We send out bipartisan judges and every step of the way they go and they pick up from the drop boxes. Then they bring them back and we run them through our machine and we do signature verification. So the next couple of days will be verifying signatures," says Mesa County Clerk & Recorder, Tina Peters.
The Secretary of State's office will send daily updates reporting the number of ballots returned to county clerks for the election. So far, more than 104,000 ballots have been returned statewide.
