MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Radon is a leading cause of lung cancer, and exposure in many parts of western Colorado can be high.
During the month of January, Montrose County is offering free radon test kits.
Radon is a colorless, odorless, tasteless gas that can enter homes through tiny cracks in the floor or small spaces around utility pipes.
It can accumulate in your home, and long-term radon exposure is the leading cause of lung cancer in non-smokers and the second-leading cause of lung cancer in smokers.
Those test kits are available at the Montrose County Health and Human Services office at 1845 South Townsend Avenue.
The state board of health declared January as radon action month, asking residents to test their homes.
