55+ year old woman tests positive for West Nile virus in Mesa County
A local woman over the age of 55 is recovering after her lab reports came back positive for the West Nile virus. The woman was not hospitalized. This is the first human case confirmed by the Mesa County Public Health.
Officials say the best way to prevent West Nile is to use EPA- approved insect repellent, dress in long sleeves and pants in high active mosquito areas, to avoid being outside at dusk and dawn, and to drain and remove sources of standing water on your property.
Earlier this week, there were two confirmed human cases of West Nile in Delta County.
