GRAND JUNCTIN, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Several members of the Grand Junction Fire Department are being deployed to fight the Decker Fire, which is burning just 2 miles south of Salida in the Sangre de Cristo Wilderness.

The fire started on September 8, just two miles south of Salida. Due to high winds and prime fire danger conditions, it has made a run and is currently burning around 6,000 acres. It is only 5 percent contained.

We would like to thank and give our best wishes to our own local firefighter being deployed, and to all of those fighting the fire out there! Stay safe!

The firefighters from Grand Junction have been assigned to structure protection at the Decker Fire. They are working on the east side of the fire near Howard, doing a lot of saw work and setting sprinkler/pump systems to protect homes, according to the GJFD.
