MESA COUNTY, Colo. (KKCO)- What started out as a simple welfare check on a man who was sitting in a running vehicle on D 1/2 Road turned into a wild pursuit, that ultimately led to the arrest of 25-year-old Theodore Coca.
Deputies were dispatched to a vehicle parked in the middle of D 1/2 near 32 Road, and when arrived, found the driver asleep at the wheel. Deputies knocked on the vehicle, which awoke the man, who immediately sped off from deputies.
During the pursuit, Coca went up on sidewalks, ran into several pieces of farm equipment, collided with a sheriff's deputy, crashed through a guard rail, and the chase ended with the man crashing into a Clifton residence. Coca attempted to flee on foot, but the deputies deployed department issued Tasers which assisted in safely detaining him.
Coca was checked for injuries by medical providers and was taken to the Mesa County Jail to be booked on an open warrant and additional charges, which included a DUI.
