CRESTED BUTTE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- One person has died, and multiple have been buried in Colorado urban avalanches, or snow that falls from a building. This brings avalanche deaths this season to eight.

Saturday, a man died in Crested Butte. Two people were cleaning the snow off an angled roof, when the snow avalanched. Both were buried, but one person survived, according to Gunnison County authorities. They were buried for 20 to 30 minutes. The man who died was identified as Stephan Martel, 25, of Gunnison.

On Friday, another person was buried while shoveling snow on the sidewalk in Crested Butte. He was buried under two to three feet of snow, for about two hours before help arrived. Authorities say the man was unconscious and hypothermic. He was taken to a hospital and released Saturday.
