GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- A man is in the hospital after an officer-involved shooting early Friday morning on Jack Creek Road in Grand Junction.

That’s according to the Mesa County Sheriff’s office, they say police officers were called to the road, near Canyon View Park, at 1 a.m. on Friday, for a suicidal man with a gun.

A confrontation happened after Grand Junction Police Department officers spotted the man walking down the road with a gun.

“It sounds like someone banging on a window, so I went and checked, but just like bangs,” Sullivan Smith, who heard the shooting, said.

No officers were hurt, according to the sheriff’s office.

“And I just stood over there at my house and watched while they did the compressions, and heard one of the officers say ‘breathe,’” Miriam Smith, who lives on Jack Creek Road, said.

The man, described as a 29-year-old, was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital.
