GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Israel Massingill was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole for the murder of Kiera Quintana.
The sentencing hearing happened Friday, one year and 11 months after Quintana was killed.
He was sentenced to 48 years for attempted murder and 24 years to life for patronizing a prostituted child. Those sentences come from other counts he was convicted of earlier this year.
All these sentences will be served consecutively, or, one after another. Judge Larson said in court Friday, this is important, that Massingill is held responsible for each individual crime.
“We feel that he deserves to spend the rest of his life in prison, and we don’t want him out where he can hurt anyone else,” Karen Quintana, Kiera’s mother, said.
Judge Larson said the court has no doubt Massingill murdered Kiera Quintana in cold blood.
Massingill will be turned over to the Department of Corrections, to begin serving those sentences.
