National Day of Remembrance for Atomic Workers

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO)- During the Cold War years, many western Coloradans worked in uranium mines. And for many of those workers, there were health consequences.

November 7 marked the National Day of Remembrance honoring the former workers who in many cases gave up their lives for the honor of their country. All former Department of Energy (DOE) and uranium workers were invited to attend the event that featured giveaways and a special pinning ceremony.

My husband has said it many times, we couldn't stay in our home and live the quality of life that we are living if it weren't for Nuclear Care Partners because they have gone to bat really well for me and my husband,” says Lydia Guthrie, a retired DOE employee.

Nuclear Care Partners work exclusively with former DOE workers who have been diagnosed with work-related illnesses.
