CLIFTON, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT News)-- Tuesday’s annual National Night Out treated Grand Junction neighborhoods to a summer evening, as a way to get to know their local law enforcement.
“We have people from the VA hospital to help with the crisis intervention," says School Resource Officer, Dep. Joshua Bunch. "We also have the crime stoppers event."
Every year Grand Junction residents can sign up their neighborhood for National Night Out. Some have ice cream, barbecues or cookouts: whatever the neighborhood chooses to do. For every neighborhood signed up, a law enforcement officer will stop by to talk about safety and to answer any questions residents might have.
“To see the police out here and everybody out here, this is awesome," says neighbor, Regina Hunter. "It’s just important to know your community and what’s going on around it."
Tuesday’s nationwide event aims to bring neighborhoods together to fight crime and create a better relationship with city responders.
