Next year, there will be a new person in the state house representing the Grand Valley.

Yeulin Willett, who was first elected to represent Colorado House District 54 in 2014, has decided not to run for re-election. District 54 is mostly made up of a majority of Mesa County but includes parts of Delta County.

Willett is now supporting Republican Matt Soper who was in Grand Junction on Tuesday to meet his constituents.

Soper grew up in Delta, Colorado and graduated from Colorado Mesa University. If elected, he said one of his priorities is to make roads in the area better.

"If you've ever driven between Delta and Grand Junction and Palisade to Clifton or even on out to Collbran, those roads are pretty bad and I believe there is money within CDOT to repair these roads and get them back up to par," said Soper.

Some of his other goals are developing better water storage for drought years and focusing on the economy.

Right now, Soper is a professional researcher and writer.
