Parvovirus at dog parks

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT News)-- The spread of parvovirus at dog parks has some canine owners worried.

A social media post about parvo at Canyon View dog park sparked conversation about it. Parvo can easily infect young puppies that have not received vaccinations. Veterinarians warn pet owners to not bring their young pups to dog parks or crowded dog places, as they can easily contract and spread the illness.

“It wipes out of the lining of the small intestine. It causes profuse vomiting, profuse diarrhea, and ultimately severe dehydration,” said Owner of Amigo Animal Clinic, Dr. Dominic Carrica.

Vets advise that if you see any of those symptoms in your dog, bring them into a clinic as soon as possible. If parvo is spotted quickly, most dogs can be diagnosed and treated successfully.
