GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The main Grand Junction post office on 4th Street is now called the "Deputy Sheriff Derek Geer Post Office Building.”
The post office was dedicated Friday afternoon in honor of Deputy Geer. Geer, a 15 year veteran at the Mesa County Sheriff's office, was killed in the line of duty in February of 2016.
“It's important to us at the sheriff's office that we remember Deputy Geer, we remember his sacrifice and we remember the impact it had on this community, and how much this community came together and supported its law enforcement in the wake of his death,” said Mesa County Sheriff Matt Lewis.
The post office building was renamed through an act of the United States Congress. The sheriff’s office, USPS, and Representative Scott Tipton worked together to make it happen.
