10-month-old found in a puddle, Loma boy's death ruled accidental

LOMA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- The Mesa County Sheriff’s Office is investigating the death of a 10-month-old child from Loma.

At 5:45 p.m. Sunday, deputies were called to a home on 16 Road, near S Road in Loma, for an infant that wasn't breathing. The Lower Valley Fire Department and the Fruita Police Department also responded.

The coroner's office released the name of the little boy: Toya Sharp.

The infant was taken to St. Mary’s Hospital by helicopter but did not survive, according to the sheriff’s office. MCSO says, like any child death, they are investigating.

The coroner’s office released new information on Tuesday about the death saying the 10-month-old drown. A release says the child was found in a puddle. The manner of death is being ruled as an accident.
