MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- UPDATE: The body of Connor Imus, 17, was found in a canal in Montrose Monday afternoon. His cause of death is still unknown, but he did fall in the canal at some point, according to the sheriff's office.
Imus was found near a hydroelectric plant on Pahgre Road and the South Canal. The Montrose County Coroner's office is still working to determine the cause and manner of death.
Original story: The Montrose County Sheriff’s office is searching the south canal area for a missing teen Monday.
We just spoke with Montrose Sheriff Gene Lillard who wouldn’t, for now, release the name of the teenager. He was reported missing by his parents after he didn’t return after walking his dog Sunday.
The boy’s keys and phone were found by the side of South Canal Road. Early Monday morning his dog was pulled from the canal. The dog apparently drowned. Sheriff Lillard says the canal is very dangerous right now and turbulent.
The sheriff’s office says they are continuously monitoring the canal, and strainers are in place. People with information about where he might be should call 970-249-9110.
