HS Wrestling: City honors GJ wrestling

Grand Junction High School held an assembly to honor the state champion wrestling team.

Grand Junction Mayor Rick Taggart presented the Tigers with a proclamation from the City of Grand Junction declaring Grand Junction High School Day as February 20, 2018.

"It's wonderful to come back to your home town, your home school and have everyone celebrate what you strived so hard for," said head coach Cole Allison It's nice recognition for the boys."

The team presented principal Ari Goldberg with the championship trophy.

It's the program's firs state team title since 1994.

"A lot of people giving high fives in the hallway and saying 'good job, congratulations.'" said junior Hunter Tobiasson. "Everyone is starting to realize what a big thing that we accomplished was."

Allison was also named 5A Coach of the Year.
