After pitching a no-hitter on Sunday McKenzie Surface threw a one-hit shutout in the Mavs 8-0 win over Chadron St.
"I tell you what I'm very pleased with out pitching," said head coach Ben Garcia. "The thing that we can work on, and I know it's early, but we got to limit the traffic. You can't get much better than Kenz(McKenzie) did, with the exception of walking some people."
Surface walked three batters on Monday.
AnnMarie Torres hit a grand slam in the bottom of the 6th to seal the victory.
In the back end of the day, CMU won the final game of the series, 7-1.
Maggie Manwarren and Kellie Mrofcza each went 2-3. Tegan Woosley added a two-run home run as well.
Brooke Hodgson earned the win on the mound going 5.0 innings giving up four hits and an unearned run.
Kimbri Herring pitched 2.0 shutout innings of relief.
"Our pitching coaches are getting on our staff but you know they scored two runs this weekend. So it's kind of just making sure we fine tune things now. Obviously cut down on the walks. But we still have places to grow so that's good. We're going to get there."
With the win the Mavs are 14-0 and will take on Adams St. on the road on Saturday.
