HS Girls Basketball: Early season travel prepares Wildcats for state

GRAND JUNCTIO, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The Fruita Monument girls’ basketball team got over their Sweet 16 hump this week taking down Denver East in the third round of the CHSAA 5A Girls State Basketball tournament. Now the Wildcats will turn their focus to the Great 8, held Friday evening at the Denver Coliseum.

The Wildcats will face the 8 seed Fossil Ridge on Friday night at 5:30 P.M. This will be the fourth time that Fruita was played on the Front Range this season, and they believe their non-conference schedule has prepared them for what’s ahead.

“We purposely set up our schedule to be able to handle situations like this at the state tournament. Hopefully it worked; I guess we will find out," said head coach Michael Wells.

The action will get underway in the Class 5A Girls Basketball tournament at 4:00 P.M. on Friday with Horizon taking on Regis Jesuit.
