GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) At a young age Colorado Mesa men’s lacrosse junior Jack Griffin was trying to find a sport that was going to work for him in the long run. It was just a few years later the game of lacrosse came calling.
He is this week’s Athlete of the Week.
“One of my buddies showed me his lacrosse stick one day and I picked it up and ever since then I’ve just been playing lacrosse non-stop since," said junior Jack Griffin.
Before arriving on the CMU campus, the Parker, Colorado native was a four time all-state selection and as a senior at Ponderosa high school was named as an All-American for the Mustangs.
“I would probably equate Jack to kind of like our gas a lot of times. You know I mean he’s the guy who really gives us the fuel and the motor to go, “said head coach Vince Smith.
The Mavs will look to make a deep run in the playoffs this season. In the latest Division 2 rankings they are sitting at 16th in the country, but respect and focus going forward will play a big factor if they want to reach that ultimate goal.
“We need to stop looking forward into the future so much and just respect each and every opponent in front of you. One of the reasons we dropped two games in Florida was we weren’t respecting the teams in front of us. We were looking ahead to far but ultimately we want to end up on that National Championships stage, “said Griffin.
CMU will be back in action on Friday when they host Johnson & Wales University at 7:00 P.M. at Walker Field.
