GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Sunday was the final day of the 2018 Special Olympics Colorado State summer games in Grand Junction. The 800 different athletes had one last chance to compete for a gold medal in soccer, swimming, and track & field.

A few of the Colorado athletes will now have the chance to represent the state in the Special Olympics USA games which will be held in Seattle, Washington July 1st-6th. All 50 states will be represented during the event.

The volunteers that had a chance to work this weekends event said it is something they want to keep doing as long as they can.

"We love coming up here. We do it as a family with my mom and brother. Special Olympics have been apart of my family for years, so it is good to be able to come back out and give back to an organization that has done a lot for me over the year,"said volunteer Azur Ewari.
