GRAND JUNCTION, Co. (KKCO/KJCT) Former Grand Junction wrestler Kaylee Lacy made history as the first ever commit for the CMU women's wrestling program.
"I wrote a letter to myself my freshman year saying I wanted to wrestle at CMU," said Lacy. "I read it like a month ago and it blew my mind, just finally reaching my goals."
Lacy was part of a Grand Junction program that won the Class 5A state title last season.
"Being able to watch some of her film I was able to find an aggressive wrestler, always gets her hand on people," said CMU head women's wrestling coach Travis Mercado. "That's something as a coach it's hard to teach that. It's hard to find someone that's constantly aggressive, always wants to hand fight, push the pace. I'm looking forward to have her to lead the charge and build the foundation for our program."
CMU begins their inaugural women's wrestling season in the fall.
