GRAND JUNCTION, Co. (KKCO/KJCT) The 64th annual Grand Junction Invite is underway at CMU's El Pomar Natatorium.
About 400 swimmers from five states representing 21 teams will compete in various events throughout the weekend.
"Racing with these people and getting faster because of them will help me go into high school," said Sarah Gaumer of Maverick Aquatics. "It helps my teammates become faster if they haven't swam on a competitive team and everything."
The swimmers, ages five to 26, will try to qualify for the Colorado State Long Course Swim Meets later this summer.
"It's a great way to kick off the summer long-course season at this pool," swimmer parent Anna Zane. "Also, it gives swimmer the opportunity to have a qualifying meet, which they don't get a lot of."
The meet will run through Sunday. Preliminaries begin at 8:45 A.M. with finals held at 5 P.M. each day.
