GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The temperatures outside are reaching near triple digits, but the Maverick aquatics swim team has found a way to cool down.
This past weekend the club hosted their annual Grand Junction invite at the El Pomar Natatorium. The event brought in nearly 400 swimmer from 21 different teams. The event was a qualifier for the state long course meet and Regional Zones in the next month.
Even with the tough competition many Western Slope swimmers were able to qualify for the championships.
"Sometimes they are in the pool for more than four hours a day. This just shows that their hard work pays off and it is really an exciting accomplishment," said meet director Mary Cornforth.
The Western Slope league championships will on the campus of CMU running July 13th through the 15th.
