GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Chad Kelly began his NFL career already behind the eight ball being known as "Mr. Irrelevant" ,the last pick in the 2017 NFL draft.
It didn't take long for Denver Bronco fans to begin to fall in love with Kelly. In his first offensive drive in Saturdays preseason opener the Ole Miss product led the team to a touchdown as he connected with Matt LaCosse for a 36 yard score. He says after being out of game play for almost two years there was no greater feeling.
"It's been 646 days since I last played a real game. I am thankful to be in this position and have a great group of guys around me,"said Kelly.
Kelly was the only Denver quarterback to throw a touchdown in the 42-28 loss to the Minnesota Vikings. His performance on Saturday night showed on Monday. Head coach Vance Joseph announced that he had moved him up to No.2 on the depth chart behind starter Case Keenum switching spots with Paxton Lynch.
"I'm just here to try and learn as much as I can from Case and even Paxton. Anytime that I can go out there and play the game of football and keep learning is a good day,"said Kelly.
Chad and Broncos will be back in action on Saturday night when they host the Chicago Bears at Broncos Stadium with a 7:05 P.M. kickoff.
