GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The Grand Junction high school football team went a combined 4-16 in the past two seasons. They are looking for things to change.
The Tigers will have to replace their starting quarterback from a year ago, Clay Payne. The man for the job will be first year starter A.J Mariz. Last season the junior racked up only 18 all purpose yards in just three games.
"We have a few kids that are new in some spots, but since camp we've came together. Now were ready to play the game and Saturday it's going to be a good day," said Mariz.
With a new quarterback under center the offense and rotation of player will change a bit for the Tigers.
"We've gone to a little bit more of a two back, power pistol offense. I think its been pretty good for our quarterback, it maximizes his abilities to do things in the option game," said head coach Mike Sirko.
Grand Junction kicks off their 2018 season Saturday when they play host to Palmer at Stocker Stadium.
