GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Grand Junction football opened up their season in a big way on Saturday. The Tigers outscored Palmer 35-0 from the beginning of the 2nd quarter on for the impressive 50-8 win to begin their season.
Palmer had cut the Grand Junction lead to 15-8 midway through the 2nd quarter, but the Tigers would quickly respond. With eight seconds left to go in the half A.J Mariz connected with Andy Smith in the back of the end zone for the score to make it 22-8 at the half.
The 2nd half was all Grand Junction as they started the running clock at the end of the 3rd quarter.
The win improves the Tigers to now 1-0 on the season, Grand Junction will have a big test next Friday night on the road at Montrose.
