HS Football: Defense leads Wildcats to season opening win

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) It wasn't the prettiest thing in the world, but the Fruita Monument Wildcats opened up their season with a win last Friday night. Fruita took down Pueblo West on the road, 10-6, with neither team scoring in the 2nd half.

The Wildcats had a punt blocked at the beginning of the first quarter which led to a Cyclone touchdown with 8:14 left on the clock. From that point on the Wildcat defense held Pueblo West scoreless for the rest of the game.

"I think our defense grinded all night long," said senior Cason Gisner. "The big thing for us was on third downs, we kept them from converting."

The Wildcats have now started 1-0 the past two seasons. A big game awaits first year head coach Cameron Ross and the Wildcats on Friday night when they take on the Central Warriors at 7 P.M. at Stocker Stadium.
