CMU Fooball: Mavs ready for Battle of the Western Slope

By  |

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) No. 19 Colorado Mesa and Western St. meet up on Saturday for the 46th time in the schools' history.

The Mavs have won four straight against the Mountaineers, including 12 of the last 13.

"I think there's kind of a natural rivalry on the Western Slope here," said head coach Russ Martin. "I think that they really look up to this game. I know that our guys do. I think with both teams there's a pride factor."

CMU also has the all-time series lead, 26-19.

Last season the Mavs defeated Western, 49-23.

"We Know that they're going to come with a punch too," said senior wide receiver Marcus Hines. "We're not overlooking them. Every team in the RMAC has the ability to beat anyone on any given Saturday."

Kickoff is set for 1 P.M. on Saturday at Western.
