17 Strong Foundation awards Victory Trips

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT)-- Former CMU baseball player Ryan Teixeira lost his battle with cancer last year.

However, his legacy lives on.

Teixeira's 17 Strong Foundation awarded victory trips to Matthew Woods and Tobias Oceguera. Both are cancer survivors.

"This is what Ryan would have wanted," said Ryan's dad, Steven Teixeira. "It's really important for us, to be a part of this baseball team still. Ryan never graduated from CMU but we're Mavericks at heart and we're Mavericks for life."

The trips give those battling life-threatening illnesses the opportunity to go anywhere they want.

"Being able to know that there's a group like that and sends adults like that is really inspiring and encouraging," said Matthew Woods. "You won't find that anywhere else. The fact that they'll just send somebody on a trip, all expenses paid, it's really really meaningful."
