HS Football: Fruita primed for Montrose

FRUITA, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) No. 5 Fruita Monument is hitting their stride at the right time.

The Wildcats are coming off back-to-back double digit wins including a victory over rival Grand Junction.

The Wildcats will need to be at their best against No. 3 Montrose.

"Definitely would be a good way to see because they have a solid team and we have a solid team," said senior offensive lineman Casey Hudson. "To finally play a really good team to see how we perform against someone like that under that amount of pressure and stuff like that."

The Indians are coming off an impressive win over Palisade, the No. 3 team in Class 3A.

Last season the Wildcats defeated Montrose by one point to open the season.

"It's a huge game for us," said Fruita head coach Cameron Ross. "Number five against number three right now. It's one of those things if we want to make a statement we got to beat teams like Montrose. We'll have a great opportunity to do that Thursday night here."

Kickoff is set for 7 P.M. on Thursday at Stocker Stadium.
