Grand Junction baseball and softball players sign to play college athletics

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) For both Grand Junction athletes, it was a moment they have been waiting for for a long time.

Derek Shaver signed to play baseball at the Divsion I Wichita State. He has been committed to the school since the start of the year and said the coaching was a big factor in his decision.

"I love coach Butler. I love the whole coaching staff over there," said Shaver. "I love everything about it pretty much. On my visits, I just felt extremely comfortable and it wasn't really a question."

Breck Smith committed to play softball at Colorado Christian University. Last season, the Cougars made it to the NCAA regionals and finished 43-15.
