GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) After what has felt like forever, the Mavericks were finally back on the court Friday night for the first time after the holiday break. They hosted South Dakota Mines at Brownson Arena.
The Mavericks got out to a quick start and scored 44 points in the first half. Much of the team's success came in the paint from senior center Damon Dubots. He scored 18 points in the first half for CMU. Just before halftime, the Mavericks had their largest lead of the night at 15 points.
CMU came out a bit sluggish in the second half and the Hardrockers closed to within four points, but the Mavericks were able to hold on and win 80-71. The Mavericks succeeded at turning defense to offense with the team scoring 24 fast break points.
The Mavericks are now 9-3 (4-2 Conf) and will play Black Hills State on Saturday night in Brownson Arena.
