ATLANTA, Ga. (KKCO/KJCT) Ben Garland, a Central High grad and now offensive lineman for the Atlanta Falcons in the NFL, was just announced as the 2018 Salute to Service award honoree. The award was created to acknowledge the efforts by members of the NFL to honor and support the military community.
USAA, an insurance provider for military members, will donate $25,000 in Garland's name to official aid societies that represent all five branches of the military. The NFL will match and donate $25,000 to Garland's military charity of choice.
In 2018, Garland traveled on two USO tours in Italy, Germany, Iraq, and Kuwait. Garland is also a current member of the Colorado Air National Guard and he finds time to support his active duty members.
Garland will be recognized at NFL honors on Saturday.
