CMU Women's Basketball: Bench play is key in crucial match-ups

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) CMU women's basketball is coming off a weekend sweep to extend their win streak to 17 games and on Saturday against Colorado Christian, the Maverick's bench outscored the Cougars 23-0.

Defense has been the big calling card for the Mavericks success this season but just as important is this team's depth. Just two weeks ago, CMU pulled off a big win at home against then undefeated Westminster College.

This weekend will be a rematch, an important game to hold the top spot in the RMAC. The difference could be how the players on the bench fill their role.

"It just definitely takes the pressure off those girls that start," said head coach Taylor Wagner. "We've got five players on the floor and we want five threats on the floor on offense. That's what we continue to preach to our girls."
