CMU Women's Basketball: Duran, Wagner headline RMAC awards

GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The CMU basketball regular season has come to a close and the RMAC handed out their end of the year awards just before the women tip off tonight in Brownson Arena.

Senior guard Jaylyn Duran won RMAC Player of the Year and head coach Talyor Wagner won conference Coach of the Year for the third time in his tenure with CMU.

The Mavericks finished first place in the conference with a 20-2 record in league play. Sydni Brandon won first team All-RMAC honors with the best assist to turnover ratio in the nation at 3.25. Karina Brandon was an honorable mention.

Duran becomes the Mavericks third RMAC Player of the Year. She led the conference in scoring averaging 18.2 points per game. On Friday, Duran broke the record for three pointers in a season when she made her 248th three. It puts her one point shy of the the RMAC record.

"Oh, it was so exciting. Especially because my family was here, my whole family got to come up and see it," said Duran. "I was excited for that. Just the fact that it was senior night and it was our last regular season game, it was a blast from the very beginning. It was very special especially because I broke the record. It was one of my goals from the beginning and I didn't want to focus on it too much but it happened and it was very exciting."
