GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Three Central seniors took the next step in their athletic careers by signing to play at the college level. All three will move in three different directions with one heading to Wyoming, one to Missouri and one staying close to home here in Grand Junction.
Caleb Davis, Jaden Williams and Andrez Martinez all signed their letters of intent today. Jaden Williams joins a Missouri Valley lacrosse team that has won their conference title the past three years.
Davis will be playing basketball at Laramie County Community College. The three sport athlete thought he'd play football at the next level but then had a big growth spurt and fell in love with basketball.
Martinez will stay in Grand Junction and wrestle with CMU. He took third at the 138 class at state in February and is ready to prove himself with the Mavericks.
"It feels awesome," Caleb Davis said. "I'm glad to know that I'm going somewhere special and doing something special. It'll be fun. It'll be a challenge and i'm up for it. Ever since I was little, it didn't matter what it was, baseball, basketball, football, I was planning on going to college. It's fun knowing I'm going."
"It's honestly kind of nerve wracking," said Jaden Williams. "I'm moving up to the next level. It's awesome to see everyone out here. I just love everyone that's helped me through the process. I definitely think it'll be different. It's going to be high intensity, a lot tougher than how it is now but I feel like I'll be able to do it."
"I wanted to stay around for family and it would just be easier because it's my hometown," Andrez Martinez said. "Growing up here, knowing everybody around. It's pretty exciting because it's a whole new level. There is going to be more of a challenge just to see where I'm at."
