GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Grand Junction extended their winning streak to three games with a 9-4 win over Billings.
The Rockies scored in the first inning for the fifth time in as many days. Christian Koss grounded out and Julio Carreras sped home from second as Billings didn't have anyone covering home plate.
The game was silent until the fifth inning when GJ scored five runs to take a commanding lead. It started with a Christopher Navarro RBI single. Colin Simpson followed it up with a two RBI triple. Todd Issacs in his first game back with the GJ Rockies then hit an RBI triple himself to make it 5-0 Rockies. Yolki Pena would send Issacs home with an RBI double.
Billings would get their first run of the game on a walk in the sixth. Junction responded with the first of Simpson's two home runs on the night, 8-1 Rockies.
Simpson would hit his second solo home run in the eighth inning. Grand Junction allows two runs in the ninth inning but hold on to win, 9-4. It was another strong offensive performance for GJ with 16 hits with nine of those hits being of the extra base variety.
Junction gets the series win at home, 3-1, after losing the first game on Sunday. The Rockies will travel to Orem to take on the Owlz Thursday night.
