GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The top two hitting teams in the Pioneer League didn't get more than six hits each in a 4-1 win at home for the Rockies.
Grand Junction scored first as Christian Koss hit his second home run in as many days to take the lead over Ogden, 1-0.
In the second inning, another home run, this time by Grand Junction native Owen Taylor scores two to give the Rockies a three run lead.
Koss, the Pioneer League hitting leader, proved why he's at the top of that list with another RBI. He hit a double to left scoring Eddy Diaz in the third and it's a 4-0 lead for GJ.
Starting pitcher Helcris Olivarez was dominant in the first four innings he allowed only two hits and had seven strikeouts. In the fifth inning, he only got through two thirds allowing three hits and the lone run for the Raptors on an RBI single. His final line was 4.2 innings, 1 ER, 5 H, 4 BB, 9 K.
The three relief pitchers for Grand Junction only allowed one hit and had five strikeouts in 4.1 innings. The Rockies get their third straight win and first over Ogden since June 28th.
GJ will host the Raptors for game two of the series Tuesday at 6:40 P.M.
