Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Sprains, fractures, broken bones...all injuries no athlete wants to experience, but it's part of the game. Brenton Doyle has shown great perseverance in recovering from a fractured cheekbone.
"It was lucky, but unlucky at the same time," says Doyle. "I didn't need to get any surgery, but still, I have all my teeth. Didn't hit one of the batboys that usually stand there so hopefully, they took notes on me."
The Virginia native has picked up where he left off, earning back his starting position at center. Before his injury, Doyle was batting over 400. He returns to a lineup with a lot of depth and holds the third-highest slugging percentage.
It will be about a year before he's 100 percent healed but until then, Doyle is happy to be back on the field and give it all he's got.
"His attitude's always good. Tough kid," says Coach Opitz. "Happy to have him back."
