GRAND JUNCTION, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) The fifth ranked team in 4A, Montrose made the trip up Highway 50 to Grand Junction to take on the sixth ranked team in 3A, Palisade. It was a battle between two of the top teams on the Western Slope and the Indians walked away undefeated with a 21-0 win on the road.
Last year, Montrose won 21-17 but Palisade had won two of the last three.
Junior quarterback Gabe Harrison got the start and the game was at a stalemate until late in the first quarter. After a fake hand-off by Harrison, he throw over the middle and was picked off by Eli Evans. The drive would be capped off by the speedster Emmert Kastendieck scoring on a 22 yard touchdown run.
Montrose would score again in the second. On fourth down, Keagan Goodwin passed to Kastendieck for a 28 yard touchdown reception.
The Indians led 14-0 at half. They tack on another touchdown in the fourth and the Montrose stays undefeated at 4-0. Palisade is shut out, now 2-2 and they are still winless at home.
Montrose will look to keep it rolling next week when they host rival Fruita Monument. Palisade will play at Evergreen next week.
