MONTROSE, Colo. (KKCO) Montrose gets past 13 seed Brighton in the first round of the 4A State Playoffs with a 28-13 win at home.
The Indians were the first team to get on the scoreboard. The first play of the second quarter was a handoff up the middle to Tayne Ila. With just over a minute to play in the first half, Montrose would strike again with a 25 yard touchdown run from Eli Evans. The Indians miss the extra point to make it 13-0.
Brighton had a great kick return and a big pass play to set up the Bulldogs at the goal line with under a minute left in the half. On fourth down, Brighton scores with a dive up the middle by Vershon Brooks. The score at the break was 13-7.
After a Montrose interception by Jorge Cadena in the 3rd quarter, the Indians put together a long drive that ran into the start of the fourth quarter. It was punctuated with a touchdown run by Cole Simmons. After Montrose made the two point conversion, they took a 21-7 lead.
The Indians held on to win 28-13 to eliminate Brighton from the 4A State Playoffs. Montrose will play the winner of 12 seeded Golden versus the five seed Pueblo West.
