Grand Junction, Colo. (KKCO/KJCT) Kade Christensen has always dreamed of becoming a Maverick. On February 6th of this year, that dream came true.
"They offered me and I was extremely happy and fortunate for that." Says Kade Christensen
The Grand Junction senior will be attending CMU on an athletic scholarship for Track & Field. But how he got there, came as a surprise.
"I was really trying to get better at football and I figured that track would help me more than baseball would." Said, Kade Christensen
"Actually was his sophomore year, kind of just hung out in the back. It was early on it was apparent that he had some skills and throughout his junior year, he really started to pick it up." Says Head Coach, Dustin Giesenhagen
The Grand Junction native has placed first in the 100, 200 and 400-meter events in all seven invitationals this season. As a quiet leader on the team, Kade is humble when it comes to his achievements. But just like any other incoming freshman, he has a little concern.
"I don't want to be a straggler or anything, I want to be able to compete with all of the guys that are already there." Says Kade Christensen
With determination and the support of his family, there is no doubt this will be the last time you hear his name.
"They recruited me with high expectations and I would like to exceed the expectations that they have for me." Says Kade Christensen
